Drill and Tap and Stud Insertion Machine

Machine uses mostly off-the-shelf components to automate the drilling of one hole, tapping three holes, and inserting two studs in an aluminum die-cast part. Studs are fed from vibratory bowls and auto-loaded into the stud insertion tools.

THROUGHPUT:	One part completed every 40 seconds if all operations are selected.
KEY ATTRIBUTES:	Loctite is automatically dispensed into the holes before the studs are inserted. Drillers and tappers have micronizer lubricators to extend tool life. Tool has easy-to-load, high precision shuttle that transports the part to each tooling location. All motion, fluid levels, and stud bowls are monitored for reliable, fast machine operation and easy-to-diagnose maintenance. The HMI allows the operator to select which operations are to be performed and also allows adjustment of parameters for flexible machine operation. Modular design enables reconfiguration to accommodate part changes. Additional station allows for more functions in future.
